What Your Job Will Be Like
Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an experienced Embedded Threat Analyst with an entrepreneurial spirit. As the geopolitical landscape increases in complexity, there is an increased need to embed threat analysts within Sandia's mission programs to ensure the mission is met. The Embedded Threat Analyst will be responsible for conducting analysis of intelligence data from multiple sources to support technical programs across a wide array of scientific disciplines.
The ideal candidate will possess proficiency with all-source analytic disciplines and tradecraft, with a proven track record of delivering timely, high-quality intelligence products and briefings to technical staff. Additionally, the ideal candidate will find exciting the need to flow between a variety of scientific disciplines and technical programs, hopping between both technical topics and different team structures and workflows.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Conduct comprehensive all-source intelligence analysis on technical topics in response to requests from technical staff, synthesizing information from multiple intelligence (INT) sources into clear, actionable analytic messages aligned with customer requirements.
- Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data to provide actionable intelligence insights.
- Assess the quality and relevance of intelligence information, ensuring credibility, reliability, and alignment with customer needs.
- Apply U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) tradecraft standards in all aspects of all-source analytic work.
- Understand and tailor intelligence products to meet the specific needs, scope, focus, and delivery preferences of end-users.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including non-intelligence personnel such as technical experts, scientists, and technologists, fostering a culture of teamwork and shared objectives.
- Navigate ambiguity in tasking by effectively communicating to clarify requirements and deliverables.
- Participate in joint analysis efforts, contributing expertise and insights to enhance overall intelligence products.
- Integrate technical subject matter expertise from multiple experts into intelligence products designed for non-technical audiences.
- Independently produce clear, concise, and well-structured written analytical reports and assessments tailored to the needs of Sandia's technical staff.
- Ensure all written products comply with established standards and are delivered within specified timelines.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality briefings that effectively communicate complex technical information in an accessible manner.
- Engage with customers to clarify requirements and ensure their intelligence needs are fully met.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies in intelligence analysis, actively pursuing professional development opportunities.
- Demonstrate the ability to learn and maintain knowledge of new and evolving technical areas.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of analytical tools, processes, and best practices.

Salary Range
$117,500 - $235,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q and SCI clearance which may require a polygraph test.
Qualifications We Desire
The ideal R&D S&E, Systems Research and Analysis candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- The ability to understand, synthesize, and draw insights from multiple types of data streams (e.g., technical, economic, policy) through the use of various analytical tools.
- Experience working as part of multi-disciplinary teams examining complex systems.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of good project management, especially as it pertains to the execution of federally-funded work (e.g., proposal development through annal review, final delivery, and closeout).
- Experience working with federal sponsors in the defense and intelligence sectors, as well as their domestic FFRDC partners, international partnering agencies, and foreign governments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams delivering critical information to customers in a succinct manner.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Well-developed technical leadership skills and the ability to prioritize and execute in a principled and focused manner
- Proficient in all-source analytic disciplines and tradecraft, analytical tools, and software.
- Willing to learn how to support technical research and communicate effectively with scientists.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly and in a timely manner.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating a positive and proactive attitude.
- Experience within the aerospace industry and space systems.
- Operational intelligence support experience with a civilian or military intelligence organization.
- Technical curiosity and an interest and aptitude for learning.
- Ability to champion the value of integrated approaches by effectively engaging stakeholders and influencing decision-making beyond immediate team boundaries.
- Active DOE Q-level and SCI security clearance or equivalent (e.g., DOD Top Secret/SCI).
About Our Team
The Emerging Disruptive Technology department (5934) specializes in technical analysis across all facets of foreign science and technology programs. The department evaluates, researches, and develops emerging technologies by leveraging broad and deep technical expertise from across Sandia and delivers timely analysis and insights for our partners.
Posting Duration

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by the DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
