Our firm has been retained by the City of Danville, VA to conduct a search for their Electric Engineer vacancy. Reporting to the Electric Engineering Director, the Electric Engineer is responsible for the design of electrical transmission and distribution facilities, preparing construction documents and estimates and performing the planning and design of system expansion and improvements. The position will also review plans for commercial, industrial and residential developments to meet energy requirements and system integrity, provide technical support for engineering technicians and other department personnel, coordinate mapping, CAD and GIS functions and develop and maintain pole loading, construction and material standards
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform as the project manager by planning, designing, estimating transmission and distribution system elements; ordering materials for transmission projects; preparing technical and administrative reports; working with vendors to resolve issues; organizing and leading meetings; reviewing plans for commercial and industrial developments and inspecting projects with in-house and contract crews
Perform electrical systems analysis by developing detailed protection schemes for distribution systems; make recommendations
Survey and inspect distribution and transmission lines for system maintenance and improvements
General Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent education and experience
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the principles and practices of electric distribution and transmission systems and of electrical system operation, maintenance, repair, loading, capacity, and design
Experience supervising and monitoring employees and their work performance, including providing input or hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations and realigning work as needed
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Read and interpret engineering designs, drawing, and specifications related to electrical distribution work.
Communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
