It's an exciting time to join the Metro Vancouver’s Water Services team. The Water Services Department provides clean, safe drinking water through its member municipalities for 2.5 million residents in the Lower Mainland. The water comes from rain and snowmelt from the Capilano, Seymour and Coquitlam Watersheds. Operating the vast drinking water system, with expansive infrastructure and a growing population, requires continual enhancements, upgrades, repairs and expansion. Reporting to the Director, Operations and Maintenance, Water Services, the Division Manager, Transmission Operations is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the remote and field-based operations of the region’s drinking water supply system. The water supply system consists of over 520 km of large diameter water mains, 19 water pump stations, 26 water storage reservoirs, and 5 dams. The Division Manager has responsibility for the operation and maintenance of Metro Vancouver's water transmission infrastructure and leads a team of over 50 employees including exempt and unionized operations and technical staff. Accountable for the division's budget, the Division Manager contributes to long range planning; and develops and implements strategic initiatives. In addition, they act as a resource for technical and project management advice for problem situations and provide guidance to others within Metro Vancouver and on behalf of the organization to contacts external to the organization. The ideal candidate brings years of progressive experience as a strong leader with both vision and a steady hand, and has excellent coaching, development and communication skills. They will have extensive technical expertise related to water infrastructure systems and operations including the regulatory aspects affecting the design, construction, operations and maintenance, and/or experience in engineering, construction, or high-profile leadership role in government or complex public sector organization, and enjoy building relationships in this influential role. Experience related to managing water supply transmission system operations including remote and field-based operations for a large complex utility service like Metro Vancouver's will be an asset, along with a superior ability to troubleshoot complex challenges affecting operations and effectively implement appropriate solutions. Extensive knowledge of relevant regulatory criteria, customer expectations and business drivers is required.
