The Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. (ABI) is the largest public infrastructure redevelopment program in Atlanta’s history that includes 22 miles of light-rail transit located in the Atlanta BeltLine corridor, 33 miles of trails, over 1,200 acres of new parkland, 46 miles of new streets and streetscapes, public art, 1,100 acres of brownfield reclamation, and the creation of more than 30,000 jobs and 5,600 affordable housing units in the neighborhoods surrounding an underutilized railroad corridor.
Atlanta BeltLine, Inc (ABI) is seeking to hire a staff Civil Engineer. Applicants must be self?motivated and able to work in a small organization environment that requires a well?rounded skill set. The ideal candidate would be interested in the many aspects of transformative urban infrastructure design, specification creation, and construction inspection.
The Civil Engineer’s primary responsibility will be to work with the real estate department on all acquisitions and access negotiations. Career growth is implicit to the position and applicants should expect to work with other ABI engineers and staff to support the management and implementation of capital projects (including parks, trails and transit), as well as other projects within ABI. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively, passing information to and absorbing information from other staff members.
The position requires a baseline understanding of environmental requirements, civil engineering, urban design, and construction management services necessary to make a project successful. The position must deliver quality work on a tight schedule. Design excellence, cooperation with external partners, and team building are fundamental values that continuously guide all aspects of our work.
Under the general supervision of the Principal Engineer, the position will be responsible for the following specifics:
Assist ABI’s Real Estate Department through the review of due diligence documentation, surveys, easement language, and inspections of temporary easements granted by
Assist in the review, approval and oversight of ABI’s Access Agreement
Provide technical assistance and consults with other ABI staff regarding engineering functions, site development, drainage, and transportation aspects to specific projects as it relates to adjacent private developments.
Prepare, review and communicate technical specifications, and cost estimates to ensure adequacy, completeness, maintainability, and compliance with design standards and formal agreements with adjacent developers.
Communicate to the ABI Design Team potential considerations for comment related to environmental issues, traffic/parking issues; drainage/erosion issues; and right of way issues specific to adjacent development.
Keep up to date on evolving best practices in sustainability to assist in the continuous review and improvement of ABI’s sustainability
Other tasks, as assigned.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Professional Engineering registration from the State of Georgia or the ability to obtain such registration within 12-months of being hired.
Experience: 5 years’ experience in civil design, management and construction of infrastructure and property development projects including but not limited to parks, trails, and brownfield remediation. Experience with multi? disciplinary projects in urban environments is highly desirable.
Highly organized with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, ability to present to and work well with persons at all levels in the organization and within the community;
Proficiency with project management software, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, GIS/ARCInfo preferred.
