The Design Project Manager functions as a licensed professional engineer project manager (or team leader) for multi-disciplined engineering and construction projects of varying levels of complexity, scope and fiscal implications, which have been assigned to the Design Department of the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration's (MDOT MPA) Engineering Division. This position also serves as a task manager for individual tasks assigned by MDOT MPA Engineering management or the MDOT MPA Engineering Response Desk (ERD). Duties include, but are not limited to: Managing the development of Contract Documents by leading a design team consisting of contracted Architectural and Engineering (A&E) design consulting firm staff; meeting with representatives of various MDOT MPA departments (e.g. Cruise Operations, Maintenance, Security, Safety, Environment & Risk Management, Information Services and A&E firms to discuss and review new project scopes or facility improvements; requesting A&E firms to draft and submit price proposal(s) for services and deliverables; reviewing price proposals for scope of services and schedules; researching and investigating MDOT MPA archived engineering level documentation and providing findings to A&E firms in order to assess past and/or present field conditions; drafting technical specifications for projects; performing detailed constructability and quality reviews of design document packages. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, in the appropriate option, is required. Evidence of license must be presented at the time of appointment. An applicant's current license as a Professional Engineer in a state with comparable requirements acceptable to the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers, in the appropriate option for which application is made, will be accepted but the applicant must obtain a Maryland license within twelve (12) months of appointment. Evidence of out of state registration must be presented at time of appointment. Selective Qualification: Two (2) years of experience must have been in the following engineering disciplines: Construction, Geotechnical, Hydraulic, or Structural.
LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties must possess a Class C motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
